Fetterman Surprises GOP Convention in Video

Democrat U.S. Sen. John Fetterman made a surprise video appearance at a Republican midterm convention in Dallas, an unusual crossover for a sitting senator from the opposing party.

Fetterman praised Republican Sen. Dave McCormick in the clip but gave no indication he plans to switch parties, even as the cameo fueled fresh speculation about his intentions.

The Pennsylvania Democrat has increasingly broken with his party’s left flank on issues from immigration to support for Israel, drawing praise from Republicans and criticism from fellow Democrats.

State Police To Begin Seizing Illegal Skill Games

Pennsylvania State Police will begin seizing illegal skill game machines from businesses statewide starting Oct. 14, warning that owners have until Oct. 13 to remove them or face prosecution and seizure of the equipment and any money tied to it.

The move follows a state Supreme Court ruling in June that classified the devices as unregulated, illegal slot machines and set a 120-day grace period for lawmakers to act.

An estimated 70,000 of the terminals have spread through bars, restaurants, VFWs, convenience stores, and gas stations across the state, operating largely outside regulation and taxation.

State lawmakers have negotiated regulations and taxes for the machines for years, but failed to reach a deal in recent budget talks, leaving enforcement as the default unless the legislature moves before the deadline.

Flight 93 Heroes Honored at State Capitol

Pennsylvania honored the 40 heroes of Flight 93 in a ceremony at the State Capitol, ahead of today’s 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

The event featured the Flight 93 Heroes Flag, designed by Gene Stilp and long displayed at the Shanksville memorial.

That memorial sits at the field where the passengers and crew forced their hijacked plane down before it could reach its target in Washington.

Their resistance is remembered as one of the day’s defining acts of courage, and Pennsylvania’s tribute keeps that story at the center of the state’s remembrance a quarter-century on, as officials and families gather again to honor the lost.
