York Charges Three in Porch Attack

York officials announced charges Friday against three juveniles in the Sept. 12 attack on York College students outside their West Jackson Street home, which Mayor Sandie Walker called “dangerous and unacceptable.”

Police were dispatched at 1:49 a.m. to a fight among a crowd drawn by street racing while officers handled an armed barricade. Video shows one woman dragged, kicked, and struck in the street. A 30-day plan brings zero-tolerance enforcement and a strict juvenile curfew.

Chief Daniel Lentz said the three girls face felony riot and misdemeanor assault and trespass counts. Investigators found no evidence of racial motivation, and District Attorney Tim Barker said no student was seriously hurt.

Barker said such gatherings “all too frequently” end in violence, and five police agencies will coordinate with York College on lasting enforcement.

Jobless Rate Hits Two-Year Low

Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate fell to 3.7% in August, its lowest since May 2024 and four-tenths of a point below the national rate of 4.1%.

The drop follows July’s 3.9%, the first reading under 4% since October 2024, and the state has outperformed the national average over the past year.

Employers added 5,800 jobs to reach 6,206,700, with gains in seven of 11 sectors led by trade, transportation, and utilities. Financial activities, education and health services, and leisure and hospitality all hit record highs.

The labor force grew to a record 6,659,000 as unemployment fell by 11,000 over the month. Jobs are up 34,600 over the year, and the rate is down from 4.4% last August.

Ed Sheeran Concert Sparks Protest

British pop star Ed Sheeran plays Lincoln Financial Field today with an anti-Israel protest planned outside, his first show since the tour dropped rapper Macklemore for criticizing Israel onstage.

Macklemore said “Free Palestine” before introducing a protest song at MetLife Stadium Sept. 5, then claimed Patriots owner Robert Kraft rallied stadium owners to bar him. Sheeran said the promoter made the call. Openers Aaron Rowe and Lukas Graham quit in solidarity, along with Finneas and backing band Beoga.

Two anti-Israel groups will gather at NRG Station at 4:30 p.m. CAIR Philadelphia noted in an open letter that the Linc sits on public property, and the venue has begun issuing refunds.

Fans are reselling tickets for as little as $70, with Sheeran listed as the only act.
