Broadband Push Gets $448 Million

Gov. Josh Shapiro announced $448 million Friday to expand affordable high-speed internet, the first round of awards from $711 million in federal funding the state received in April.

The money covers 41 projects in 50 counties and will connect 71,000 homes and businesses, including nearly 3,000 in Centre and Mifflin counties, which get $29 million.

At Bald Eagle Area, where about 20% of students lack reliable internet at home, counselor Katie Kingera said some kids use a phone as a hotspot or rush to finish homework in study hall.

State efforts since 2022 have cut households without high-speed internet from 330,000 to 133,000, and Shapiro aims to connect the rest by 2030.

Most Vapes Become Illegal Oct. 19

Starting Oct. 19, Pennsylvania stores can no longer sell any vape product missing from a new state registry run by the attorney general.

Act 57, signed last December, lets Attorney General Dave Sunday’s office approve manufacturers, brands, and flavors. Juul, Vuse Alto, and blu are among the products on the list.

The approved list was supposed to come out in June. Chris McGrath, who owns two of the state’s roughly 300 vape shops, says nearly all of his 500 products will be off his shelves.

The law mirrors measures in at least 11 other states and passed with broad bipartisan support as a way to keep vapes from kids.

Where Is Central Pennsylvania, Anyway?

A Spotlight PA survey asked Pennsylvanians what region they live in, and people in 23 different counties, from Potter to Lancaster, answered “central Pennsylvania.”

Count variations like north-central and south-central, and the total hits 36 of the state’s 67 counties. Not everyone’s buying it. “Anyone who assumes Lancaster is in Central PA needs to look at a map and get some glasses,” one Centre County resident wrote.

Even the state stretches the term. The Department of Community and Economic Development’s version covers 17 counties in an upside-down V, running from Clinton County down to five counties along the southern border.

For the record, the geographic center of Pennsylvania sits in Centre County, about 2 1/2 miles southwest of Bellefonte.

Doctor unveils dark bone broth secret (avoid now)

If you think bone broth is a great way to get collagen, think again.

According to a former surgeon, animal bones are known for absorbing heavy metals.

This can potentially lead to brain fog, fatigue, or even muscle weakness.

That’s why he recommends a “collagen reset technique” instead.

To his knowledge, it’s the only technique that can help your body build its own collagen.

Anyone can do it without drinking broths.

California Surgeon: “Muscle Loss in Seniors is Real, But It Doesn’t Have to Be”

If you think collagen is only for supporting healthier skin, hair, and nails, think again.

Not only does it play a role in holding the teeth in your mouth, keeping your heart walls intact, and reinforcing your gut lining…

It’s also what allows you to enjoy your favorite outdoor activities without getting tired.

But unfortunately, eating more collagen isn’t the answer.

That’s why Dr. Steven Gundry has created what he calls the “collagen reset technique.”

And to his knowledge, it’s the only technique that’s designed to help your body build its own collagen.
