School Phone Ban Heads to Shapiro

Pennsylvania public schools will ban student cellphone use from bell to bell starting in the 2027-28 school year after the state Senate gave final approval to Senate Bill 1014, sending it to Gov. Josh Shapiro, who has said he’ll sign it.

Exceptions cover medical needs and educational purposes, and schools must give parents a way to reach their children during the day, such as a staffed office phone.

The bill first passed the Senate 46-1 in February, and the state’s largest teachers union says it will help teachers keep students engaged.

Pennsylvania will join 28 states with student cellphone restrictions, including 19 with bell-to-bell bans.

Allegheny Paid Leave Law Set for Signing

Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato signed a paid parental leave mandate giving eligible workers up to 12 weeks of paid leave after a birth or adoption, the first such county requirement in the nation.

The county scaled back the original proposal from 18 weeks after pushback from businesses, also exempting smaller employers and lengthening how long workers must be on the job to qualify.

The Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association and the state Chamber argued the mandate could strain small businesses operating on thin margins.

Pittsburgh Angler Lands Record Catfish

A 36-pound, 2-ounce channel catfish caught by Dave Taylor during a nighttime tournament in the Pittsburgh area is officially Pennsylvania’s new state record.

It tops a 35-pound, 3-ounce record that had stood since Austin Roth caught his fish in the Lehigh Canal in 1991.

Taylor checked the record by phone after someone at the tournament suggested his fish might beat it, then had it weighed on certified scales with a state official present.

Pennsylvania state record fish are judged only by weight and must beat the old mark by at least two ounces.

Robots Are Seeing Like Humans Now

As we’re seeing (literally!) in the $1T fast-food industry, the gap between humans and robots keeps narrowing every day.

Thanks to a unique NVIDIA collaboration, Miso Robotics just announced cutting-edge 3D-vision for its famous Flippy fry station restaurant robots. And until midnight PT, investors can help.

With this upgrade, Flippy is taking its current 2D-vision to the next level, unlocking key advances in safety, operational efficiency, and more. For Flippy users like White Castle, Carl’s Jr., NBA arenas, and college campuses, few things matter more.

Plus, Miso just closed two major asset acquisitions, including a once-SoftBank-backed robotics stalwart. In the process, it even added big-name customers like Jersey Mike’s, Cinnabon, and Auntie Anne’s, and grew its patent portfolio a whopping ~10X to over 300.

Now, Miso is targeting $1.3 million of investment as it accelerates Flippy’s shift from 2D to 3D vision. And you have until midnight PT tonight to join it and help bring Flippy’s biggest vision upgrade to market. Bonus shares are available.

Is This the NBA’s Most Consistent Player?

Sorry LeBron. The new face of consistency in NBA arenas may just be…a robot?

It’s thanks to Miso Robotics’ Flippy fry station kitchen robot. Already a fixture in the $1T fast-food market, it’s now manning NBA arena fryers.

Flippy helps boost location profits up to 4X, cooking ~100 items at speeds up to 2X faster than humans. In high-volume environments, that reliability’s like a 99% 3-point shooter. Money.

And Miso’s not done improving Flippy. A unique NVIDIA collaboration brings new 3D vision technology, unlocking real-time awareness. Combined with years of proprietary data, that’s a formidable moat.

Now, Miso’s targeting $1.3M of investment as it accelerates Flippy’s leap from 2D to 3D vision. Those who invest by midnight PT will help bring Flippy’s biggest vision upgrade to market. And bonus shares are available.
