New Vape Law Takes Effect Today

Pennsylvania’s Act 57 takes effect today, making it illegal for stores to sell any vape product that isn’t on a new state registry of items with FDA authorization or a pending FDA application.

Only six companies’ products, including Juul, NJoy, and R.J. Reynolds Vapor, reportedly qualify so far, and fines start at $500 per illegal item and climb for repeat violations.

Attorney General Dave Sunday said the law aims to keep illegal, unapproved vapes away from kids, and his office will work with police and district attorneys to enforce it.

Some shop owners say they’ll lose most of their inventory, including a Ross Township owner who is closing all three of her Cool Vapes stores and laid off nine employees.

Judge Denies Penn State Game Request

A Centre County judge denied a request from a man who threatened State College Area High School to loosen a parole condition so he could attend Penn State football games and wrestling matches.

The 22-year-old, who pleaded guilty last year to a felony count of terroristic threats, can’t go within 100 feet of a school under his five-year supervision.

Prosecutors deferred to the county’s probation department, which was uncomfortable with the request. He has completed only about a fifth of his supervision.

Police said he had discussed a shooting and bombing at the school timed to the Columbine anniversary, though the district attorney later said investigators found no evidence he planned to follow through.

Philly’s Pigeon Tour Takes Flight

A 90-minute pigeon tour now ranks as the third most popular tour in Philadelphia on TripAdvisor, giving the Liberty Bell and the Rocky Steps some unexpected competition.

Philly Pigeon Tours founders Hannah Michelle Brower and Aspen Simone lead visitors through the city’s most pigeon-friendly spots, answering questions like why the birds always face the same way.

The answer, Simone says, is that they face into the wind because their feathers streamline from front to back.

Brower used to hate pigeons until she nursed a sick one back to health four years ago, and that bird, Primrose, now lives with the couple and gets regular baths and blowouts.
