Odor Turns Back Philly-Bound Flight

An American Airlines flight bound for Philadelphia returned to St. Louis shortly after takeoff Saturday after an unusual odor was detected on board.

Details on what caused the smell weren’t immediately released.

It’s not the first odor scare on a Philly-bound American flight, as a London-to-Philadelphia flight diverted to Dublin in 2019 after two flight attendants reportedly passed out.

American later said a spilled cleaning solution, its initial explanation, wasn’t to blame, though the airline never identified a specific cause.

Hurts Likely Out for Season with Blood Clots

Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts could miss the rest of the season after tests found a deep vein thrombosis and multiple blood clots in his lungs, the team and his agent said Monday.

Hurts is clinically stable and expected to make a full recovery, but he can’t play while on blood thinners, a treatment expected to last at least three months.

After doctors in London diagnosed a superficial clot in his calf, they told him not to sleep as a precaution, so he’d been awake for roughly 36 hours when he started the Oct. 11 loss to Jacksonville.

Backup Tanner McKee started Sunday’s 25-14 loss to Carolina, dropping the Eagles to 2-4 ahead of next Monday’s game against Dallas.

Homecoming King Shares His Crown

A Mahanoy Area High School homecoming king gave his crown to the runner-up, a fellow student with Down syndrome, in a moment that’s drawing attention online.

Video of the Schuylkill County school’s homecoming ceremony has been widely shared on social media.

The heartwarming gesture came during October, which is also Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

Similar moments at schools across the country have become some of the homecoming season’s most-shared stories.
